Spring Cleaning Tips for Furniture

Hoover F5914 Carpet Washer with Spin Scrub

The Hoover F5914 extractor works on carpets and upholstery.

After a winter of family members and football watching friends sitting on your couch it might be time to freshen it up! Upholstered furniture can be susceptible to staining from food, drinks, and normal wear. As well, fabrics can hold odours from pets and spills. During this years’ Spring Cleaning pay extra attention to this area that may be missed.

The best way to maintain your furniture is to vacuum regularly, especially if you have pets. While doing the normal cleaning routine take a few moments to use the upholstery tool on your vacuum to clean your furniture. This will help remove any crumbs, dander, and hair before they build up and start to cause odour problems.

Accidents happen, which is why spot cleaner was invented! If staining is common in your home always have a high quality spot cleaner on hand like the Clean + Green Carpet and Upholstery cleaner, or the Roto Static stain remover. These work wonders on the mysterious spots that tend to show up on couches and chairs. As well, it’s always a good idea to tend to accidents and spills as soon as they happen. It is recommended to do a test on the fabric first, and follow the manufactures’ cleaning guide.

For those really tough stains, and for a really deep clean, we suggest using an extractor on upholstered furniture on a semi or annual basis. Most extractors, like the Hoover F5914 SpinScrub, come with a handheld option for cleaning stairs, couches, and chairs. For smaller spaces and for homes without carpets a handheld only unit, like the Bissell Little Green Machine, is a better option.

Keeping your furniture fresh year round takes a little bit of work but makes the time spent relaxing more enjoyable!
